Welcome to Wednesday

Not only Welcome to Wednesday, but Welcome to Summer! Even though it has felt like summer for a while now, today is the official first day of Summer. Just to give you something to look forward to – the majority of the United States typically experiences its warmest weather in July and early August. In the meantime here are some thoughts about Summer:

SUMMER

Thoughts

Just a few more minutes until the official astrological arrival of Summer 2023 – 9:57 a.m. – The Summer Solstice – the longest day and shortest night in the Northern Hemisphere. From here we start dropping minutes of daylight every day until we reach December 21, 2023, the longest night, and then we start the cycle all over again.

Here is how NASA explains the Summer Solstice, “Earth is aligned on an axis, an imaginary pole going through the center of our planet. But this axis tilts – at an angle of 23.5 degrees. As Earth orbits the sun [once each year], its tilted axis always points in the same direction. So, throughout the year, different parts of Earth get the sun’s direct rays, When the sun reaches its apex in the Northern Hemisphere, that’s the summer solstice.”

Isn’t that a simple explanation? Whatever the reason, I know I love the long summer days and wish we had daylight saving time year round. Summer is happy times, bright sunshine, HOT days, sultry nights, vacations, ice cream melting and dripping before you can eat it; having fun, going to the beach, pool, or lake; going to an amusement park; having a picnic; eating barbecue, corn-on-the cob, watermelon; going to a baseball game, having a hot dog and ice cold beer; or just doing nothing at all. Summer is your permission to be lazy – to do nothing and have it count for something.

So enjoy your long summer days. The Earth is moving and before you know it, they fade into long nights. Think about the things you enjoy doing during the Summer.
